Marta is a sustainable tourism and climate change consultant and researcher. She has two decades of international experience in sustainable development across Europe and Central Asia, with a specific focus on tourism since 2015.
She has advised several international donors, including the German Development Agency (GIZ), the World Bank, and UK Aid as well as regional and city tourism boards on sustainable tourism strategy and responsible destination management. Prior to joining GDS, she was the Senior Sustainable Tourism Manager at a tourism consultancy Toposophy, leading tourism and climate change projects across Europe.
She holds an MSc, with Distinction, in Responsible Tourism Management from Leeds Beckett University, as well as an MA in Politics and an MA in Sociology.
Passionate about mountains, from 2015 to 2018, she co-led the development of the Transcaucasian Trail, a long-distance hiking route across the Caucasus. She is also an Assessor for the annual Mountain Protection Award at the UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation) and has guided the UIAA in developing its sustainability guidelines. She climbs mountains whenever she can.
